I'm taking a more serious note this week with a powerful article posted on KevinMD.com. Dr. Kevin Pho is a board-certified internal medicine physician, and is a huge voice on social media for physicians. His articles provide a relevant, interesting, and fascinating perspective from hardworking physicians across the country.
Getting sick is expensive. Getting hurt is expensive. Life is expensive. In this article, Emergency Physician Dr. Whitecoat details an issue regarding a $514 bill a patient received from the hospital after bringing her toddler to the emergency room.
I don't want to give away the whole story, and I encourage you to read the full article. However, we often forget about the surgical personnel, radiology, lab, registration clerks, maintenance, security, IT, and other hospital staff members who make it possible for a patient to be seen immediately upon entering the emergency room.
The quality medical care available to each and every one of us is something we can't simply ignore. I want to thank all of the hardworking medical staff and employees who are committed to helping our people.
