Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa… whatever holiday you are celebrating this season, one thing is for sure: they all involve food.
Although the holidays are a magical and celebratory time of year, they are also extremely food-focused. It’s not necessarily a bad thing to enjoy some Thanksgiving pumpkin pie or holiday cookies, but we tend to go overboard during the holidays.
An average holiday meal can have around 2,000 calories; that amount of calories might be what you typically eat in a whole day! We go for seconds—sometimes thirds—and fill up on those items that only come around once a year. You can see how easily these calories can add up.
You shouldn’t deprive yourself during the holidays, but a food coma isn’t a great solution either. Finding a healthy balance and enjoying your favorite foods in moderation can help you stay in check during the holidays.
