I'm back! My apologies for the hiatus this past week, I was in Montauk on a short vacation. My stay in Montauk was a much needed re-set to a very hectic and exciting year! I graduated from my undergrad at Penn State (We Are!!!), went straight into my Master's program at NYU, started a new job, and I'm now transitioning to my dietetic internship beginning in August! So many amazing changes in such a short period of time, and I definitely needed a relaxing getaway.
I will be posting about my vacation and my healthy travel tips soon. However, I want to dedicate a post to my newfound favorite treat... Acai Bowls!
Acai (pronounced ah-sah-EE) is a large berry from the Amazon, and has a slew of health benefits. One of the key highlights of this fruit is that it extremely rich in antioxidants, and wins the antioxidant count over other berries like strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Acai is full of fiber, vitamins, and has a lower sugar content than other fruits.
An Acai Bowl is like a thick berry smoothie, loaded with delicious toppings. The acai berries are typically blended with juice or coconut water, and topped with fruit, granola, peanut butter... whatever your foodie heart desires.
Happy Bowls in Montauk, NY serves up AMAZING acai bowls, and even offers pitaya bowls, another type of exotic fruit bowl. My boyfriend and I treated ourselves to an acai bowl for breakfast every day on vacation; we were so hooked! They are simply a smart way to start the day, and they also keep you very full. On the second day of our vacation, we went on a daylong hike, and the acai bowls at breakfast sustained us until dinnertime.
Many juice spots are now dishing up acai bowls as well. Look online to see what's near you, and give one a try :)
Xoxo,
Stefani
