Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month: Research Federal Grant
Did you know that June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month? This month is dedicated to raising awareness and conversation about the brain, Alzheimer's, and other dementias.
I read this morning that the National Institutes of Health have just issued a federal grant to the Southern Illinois University School of Pharmacy. The researchers at SIUE will be receiving a five-year $2.65 million grant to pursue Alzheimer's research in hopes of developing a drug that would help patients retain their memory for up to a year.
This drug will hopefully slow the progression of the disease in individuals, and help them retain their memory and functional activities five to ten years longer than current drugs allow. Researchers are not yet ready for clinical trials, but this is a major step in Alzheimer's research.
Stay tuned for another post on healthy habits to help boost brainpower and memory.
